Hyperprism-PPC Player allows you to play sound files on any PowerMac® or compatible computer.
Before Anything Else:
You may need to install the OjectSupportLib Extension to run any of Hyperprism-PPC products, depending on the current version of your System Software. This can be found in our Utilities folder (CD-ROM) or on our web site, "Latest Updates" page, Software Utilities section (bottom of the page).
When you have this file, simply drag it on your System folder and restart your computer.

•File specifications:
- AIFF or Sound Designer II format.
- Mono or Stereo mode.
- 8 or 16 bits resolution.
- 11.025, 22.050, 44.100 or 48.000 KHz Sample Rate (when supported by the hardware).
It has a simple to use interface derived from our Hyperprism family of stand alone Real-Time Sound Effects Processors. It includes:
• Open Dialog
- Displays all information on sound files residing in the currently selected folder.
- Filters display of sound files format by means of "AIFF" and "SDII" check boxes.
- Allows Play/Stop of these files without opening them.
- Display a Reference document window when opened
• Reference Window
- Displays all information on the file opened
- Allows selection of time values for Begining, End and Duration of sound playback.
• Windows Menu
- Displays the list of the currently opened sound files and palettes for quick selection.
• Playback palette
- Mute/Play and Left/Right channels selectors.
- Play, Stop, Pause, Loop buttons (Record is disabled).
• Peak Meters palette
- from -24 to + 3dB.
- Green LEDs up to -3dB, orange from -3 to 0 dB, red above 0 dB.
- Red LEDs stay on indicating possible clipping of a single sample.
- Red LEDs can be turned off with a Reset button on top of the palette.
• Faders palette
- Allow to increase or attenuate the current signal by + or -18 dB.
- 1 left, 1 right and one common, middle, slider heads for both left and right.
- Three "zero" buttons to reposition automatically each fader in its neutral position (no dynamic change).
CAUTION: WATCH YOUR LEVELS!
Increasing a signal by less than 18 dB can be dangerous to your speakers and more importantly, to your hearing: You may be playing a sound file with low dynamic at one moment and swapping to a file with a higher one at another moment. The faders position is independent of the file being played. Therefore if you increased the gain in the meantime and did not reset the position of your faders you may get unexpected loud sounds!
• Time palette
- Displays time elapsed when Play is activated.
- In loop mode, the time displayed is cumulated.
• Compatibility of Hyperprism-PPC and Digidesign audio hardware
Routing your signals through the I/O ports of Digidesign hardware is possible if you use the appropriate Digidesign Sound Drivers (one Extension file) and configure it from your Sound Control Panel.
Please note however that Digidesign may not guarantee compatibility of all its Drivers with the Sound Manager. We found that version 1.31 (included in our Utilities folder) of the Digidesign Sound Drivers gave satisfactory auditory results with Hyperprism-PPC.
